Lansing Eastern Building Tardy Policy

Students who are tardy to class must go to the attendence office to receive an admit to class slip. Students who are consistently late (3 or more times) will be referred to their grade level administrator for a Thursday school assignment and an admit to class slip. During Thursday school, students are to bring work, paper, and pencils. Thursday school starts at 3:15 p.m. and is over at 4:45 p.m.

In order to meet the State of Michigan mandated hours of instruction, Eastern High School will adopt the following attendance policy:

Students are expected to be in school. A significant lesson to be learned in school is the importance of regular attendance. Each day in class, learning is taking place. These learning experiences can never be duplicated. When a student is not in attendance he/she is missing a valuable portion of his/her education.

Students who are late to class will be marked tardy and sent to the Attendance office for a pass. They will be responsible for making up any work that they miss due to the absence. Three tardies will equal one absence. If a student is more than 20 minutes late to a class, he/she will be considered absent.

Students are limited to ten (10) absences per class per semester. Absences beyond the ten are considered excessive. Students will lose credit for the class unless an attendance waiver is submitted within 10 days of their 10th absence.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

School Related Absences: Approved school-related absences such as field trips, sports contests, tests, or meetings are considered excused. The advisor or coach of a school-related activity will provide teachers with a list of students involved in the function in advance.

Pre-arranged Absences: Students who know in advance that they will be absent should submit a written request from the parent/age of majority student. A pre-arranged absence form will be issued to the student to be completed by the parent/age of majority student and the student's teachers. Pre-arranged absences are NOT automatically waived. Parents must request and fill out a waiver form.

Permits to Leave the Building: If a student attends any portion of the school day, they must obtain a Permit to Leave the Building if they must leave the school before the day is over. Students who are ill should report to class for a pass to the clinic. Students with appointments, emergencies, etc. should obtain the Permit to Leave prior to the time they are scheduled to leave from the Attendence office. Students will be released to a parent, guardian, or persons listed on the student's Emergency Procedure Card only. All other students shold have a note from their parents stating the time the student is to be released. Students who leave the building without checking out will be considered truant.

Contagious Illness: Please notify the Eastern Attendance Office (517-325-6503) or the Clinic (517-325-6524) if a student is absent because of a contagious illness. The student should obtain a written release from a doctor to be readmitted to school.
