PATHWAYS OFFERED AT HILL CENTER FOR ACADEMICS AND TECHNOLOGY
(All Pathways are offered in 3 hour block classes)
6001(F)/6002(S) AUTO COLLISION REPAIR This course prepares students for performance in automotive body repair and painting, including sanding, bumping, masking, and welding. Learn how to prepare for ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification test, estimate costs, repair damaged autos, mix and apply auto finishes, weld plastic and steel.
6011(F)/6012(S) AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY This course is a two-year course covering six of the ASE automotive certification testing areas. The certification fields covered are : brakes, steering and suspension, manual transmission and drive-lines, engine repair, engine performance, and electrical. In each area students will learn theory and the use of diagnostic equipment in a program that has been developed to provide 605 hands-on experiences. In addition, Hill's Automotive Technology program offers articulated college-credit to this course. Those who complete the course may be able to articulate up to 10.5 semester-credits if they master the competencies in the Automotive Technology program at Hill Center for Academics and Technology.
6021(F) BUILDING MANAGEMENT & REPAIR 1 This course instructs students in building management and care. Tasks include cleaning and maintaining of buildings and ground maintenance. Students learn basic tool safety and handling of power tools, how to keep proper supply inventories, how to use chemicals safely and the principals of construction and wall repair.
6022(S) BUILDING MANAGEMENT & REPAIR 2 This course is an extension of Building Management & Repair 1 and focuses on building operation and maintenance. Tasks include electrical, mechanical, plumbing installation and repair, drywall hanging, finishing, painting and repair. Tool safety, using power tools and performing basic construction are also included.
6031(F)/6032(S) BUSINESS SERVICES & TECHNOLOGY This course is a two-year program designed to offer students training in the following technical areas: Computer Information Systems, Internet in Business, Programming in Visual Basic, Local Area Network, Keyboarding, Microsoft Office, Networking Computers using Windows NT and Net Ware. All training is designed to help students gain necessary skills in the area of Computer Operator, Administrative Assistant and Network Administrator. Learning is gained through hands-on applications. Each course uses the latest technology. Students gain valuable experience on industry standard computer software.
6041(F)/6042(S) CHILD CARE & GUIDANCE This course focuses on childhood growth and development processes. Develop age appropriate activities for 2.5 to 5-year olds. Interact with children in a licensed preschool. Understand policies and regulations for child care settings. Keep records, use educational software, and supervise small and large groups.
6051(F)/6052(S) CONSTRUCTION TRADES This course focuses on employability skills for construction related work. First and second year students work as teams building a home in the Lansing area. All students are expected to gain experience in flat work concrete, rough and finish carpentry, cabinet and counter top installation, sheet rock installation, taping and floating drywall, painting, electrical and plumbing systems, roofing, siding, estimating, reading blueprints and the application of building codes to construction.
6061(F)/6062(S) COSMETOLOGY This
course focuses on the study and performance of services having to do
with improving and enhancing features of the head, hair, face, neck,
hands and feet. The program is designed to prepare students to learn
and build the necessary skills needed to obtain a State of Michigan
Cosmetology license. The State of Michigan requires passing all theory
with a score of 75% or better. Upon completion of 1500 hours, students
become eligible to take a pre-State examination. Passing the pre-State
exam will qualify students to take the State Board Examination. Once
a student passes this examination, he/she becomes a licensed Cosmetologist. This course is an extension of Cosmetology and focuses on the study and performance of services having to do with improving and enhancing features of the head, hair, face, neck, hands and feet. 6067(F) CISCO ACADEMY 1 This course is hands-on and provides students an opportunity to master essential knowledge and skills required in the computer-networking field. Students will design, build, and maintain small to medium-sized networks.
6068(S) CISCO ACADEMY 2 This course is hands-on and an extension of Cisco Academy 1, providing students an opportunity to master essential knowledge and skills required in the computer-networking field. Students will design, build, and maintain small to medium-sized networks.
6069(F) CISCO ACADEMY 3 This course is hands-on and an extension of Cisco Academy 2, providing students an opportunity to master essential knowledge and skills required in the computer-networking field. Students will design, build, and maintain small to medium-sized networks.
6070(S) CISCO ACADEMY 4 This course is hands-on and an extension of Cisco Academy 3, providing students an opportunity to master essential knowledge and skills required in the computer-networking field. Students will design, build, and maintain small to medium-sized networks.
6071(F)/6072(S) ARCHITECTURAL AND MECHANICAL DRAFTING This
course focuses on performing architectural or mechanical drawings and
corrections on engineering drawings, training on CAD CAM (computer-aided
drafting) system, and using drafting tools and equipment. Understand
architectural design concepts and build models.
6081(F)/6082(S) ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGY This course focuses on installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment. Understand basics of computer programming, electronic theories and concepts, electrical research, sound systems, communication, and physical layer of networking. Learn to use electronic test equipment.
6091(F)/6092(S) HEALTH CAREERS -- EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE This course emphasizes learning the techniques of CPR, shock prevention, shock treatment, taking vital signs, emergency treatments, extrication and triage situations, ambulance operation, hospital communication systems, and assessing patient injuries and diseases. Intern on an ambulance and in a hospital emergency room.
6101(F)/6102(S) HEALTH CAREERS -- MEDICAL This course introduces students to the exciting world of health care. The content focuses on health and disease, through the study of basic anatomy and physiology. The highlight of the course is the opportunity the students have to job shadow at a local hospital.
6103F)/6104S) HEALTH CAREERS--MEDICAL (ADVANCED) This course is an extension of Health Careers--Medical. The content focuses on health and disease, through the study of basic anatomy and physiology. The highlight of the course is the opportunity the students have to job shadow at a local hospital.
6111(F)/6112(S) HOSPITALITY & FOOD MANAGEMENT This course focuses on food preparation, restaurant service, and marketing techniques in a practice setting. Learn how to bake bread and desserts, plan and prepare banquet meals, use food preparation equipment and work with customers.
6121(F)/6122(S) LANDSCAPE & GREENHOUSE TECHNOLOGY This
course provides a foundation for those students seeking careers in the
dynamic agriculture and natural resources industries. There are many
professional opportunities in government and private business. Plant
science will be explored. Floral design, marketing and retail operations
in a floral shop setting; identification of indoor and outdoor plants,
using power equipment operating and managing a greenhouse, designing
landscape plans, working on -site, installing landscape plant material,
and experiencing growth of plants is covered in an educational setting.
6125(F)/6126(S) MACHINE MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY This course focuses on the operation of high-tech machinery. Students will use machines to make metal parts, read blueprints, do precision measuring , make computations, operate CNC mill and lathe, grind surfaces, and heat treat steel. Computers will be used to program machinery.
6135(F) ORACLE INTERNET ACADEMY 1 This course is hands-on. Students will master essential knowledge and skills of an Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) and Java Developer using database and web fundamentals; SQL and PL/SQL, Java programming and Java database applications.

6141(F)/6142(S) TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY This course is intended to train students for beginning level jobs in commercial broadcasting, industrial, cable and industrial media, advertising, multimedia, and related fields. An applied practical introduction to the fundamentals of basic audio and video production is used. The course covers theory, terminology, and techniques. Emphasis is on function and operation of equipment to achieve basic production skills.
6151(F)/6152(S) VISUAL IMAGING TECHNOLOGY This
course focuses on acquiring skills to create, design and produce printed
media. These skills involve layout and design, desktop publishing/computer
graphics, costing and job write-up, camera operations, film assembly,
plate making, letter-press, offset, screen process printing, and finishing
operations. This is accomplished through the completion of basic assignments
and producing personal and/or school district printed products. |
